okay - My first trip to Bristol and I am staying in Greeneville for the weekend. What time do I leave for both the Saturday race and the Sunday race assuming I want 1 hour of comfortable time to cruise the merchandise area? Also, how long after the race should I expect be back in Greeneville - 2 hours, 4 hours, etc.

Thanks

I would get to the track as early as possible, like no later than 10am.  I assume you will take 11E from Greeneville, which should take you about an hour.  Allow about an extra half hour for Sunday.  As far as getting out, Saturday shouldnt be real bad, maybe 2  hours back to Greeneville. Sunday will be a different story.  On Sunday Which way will you be heading, back to Greeneville or to I-81 North?  I would plan on hanging around and eating either way. It is crazy for several hours out there.

Another factor is where you are parking. the difference of a 1/4 mile on your parking location can make the difference of an additional hour of sitting in traffic.

My suggestion is to be in no hurry after the race on Saturday, plan on a hour or two of not even getting in your car post-race, then you would not have as big a problem getting rolling. It just depends on what you enjoy doing, sitting in your car in traffic or hanging out at the track for the festivities, A good time to visit JELLOVILLE even. Either way you do it, get in the car or stick around you will be looking at the same amount of time getting back to Greeneville.

As far as Sunday, well I can't say because I tend to do a disappearing act before everyone else is leaving.

First timer going to Bristol this spring here.  I have season New Hampshire passes and camp for the weekend up there.  i'll be tenting it this race at Bristol Campground.  My questions are this-

-  Bud, High Life, or Mich light?
-  How far of a walk is it from the Bristol campground to the racetrack, more specifically pearson terrace?  I don't mind walking at all.
-  Is the race similar to other nascar races with regards to the merchandise vendors outside of the track or no?

Looking forward to the trip and the race!

1)ALL 3!!!!!!   2) probably 3/4 mile-but shuttle buses run through the campground before race & take you to track-after race will take you to entrance of campground-BUT LONG LINES FOR SHUTTLES AFTER RACE       3)YES-there will be some venders, sponcer's stuff, & speed channel stage on the side of the racetrack(dragstrip side) you will enter from Bristol Campground. Most of the Driver/Vender 's trailers are set up in the main entrance of the Speedway(which is CLOSED TO TRAFFIC all race weekend) & in EARHART Campground located next yo BMS. There is shuttles that go around the speedway so you don't have to walk.Big%20smile

1. High Life.
2. Depends on which campground you are tenting it in.  Earhart is $150 for the week and is adjacent to the track.  Others are farther away and are about the same price.  No matter where you camp you will have to do some walking.
3. There are more merchandise tents and haulers then most tracks.  The team haulers and white "clearance" tents are on the front side of BMS and there is a whole section of sponsers handing out free stuff on the back side of BMS.  The Speed stage is also on the back side.

I am at work so I can't do a photobucket deal with details, but open this pic and then look at the upper right hand part of the track. That is turn 1 of the track and directly outside of that, and across the creek you will find JELLOVILLE!
You are looking at a 20-30 min. walk depending on how much weaving and bobbing you do along the way.

We used to stay at Bristol Campground. The fastest way to get to Jelloville is catch the tram from the campground and get off near the hospitality village. That will save some time right there. Should be just a 5-10 minute walk from there to Earhart. Just look for the bridges.

First time coming to Bristol. I can get my hands on a couple different section of seats ..Where is the best place to sit?? In the Terrace sections or down lower??? I can get either Allison terrace and Allison or I can get JJ Terrace or JJ lower...

The basic difference is if you want bench seating or an individual chair.  The lower section is all bench seating and anything on a terrace is an individual seat.  You can not go wrong with either.

Hi! We are attending our first race at Bristol Motor Speedway and have a few questions about parking.... Is there alot of parking available in the free parking sections or do u have to gamble on being able to find a spot? If there is enough parking in the free section how far away is it from the track? We are staying in gatlinburg and i saw the link for rockytop tours and we are considering this for the cup race Sunday but was curious if anyone has ever used this and is it worth paying 60 bucks. Any information would be extremely helpful and greatly appreciated....and another thing what is this JELLOVILLE I am reading so much about and we have tickets to the food city race night and was wondering if you have to have tickets for the drivers that will be signing auto's and is it hard to get the tickets?

Thanks so much !!!!

As of yesterday.......gas @ Food City on HWY 394 was $2.66 a GAL. @ Walmart on the volunteer parkway was $2.61 a GAL. Walmart also had a whole section up in the front of the store with lots of camping stuff, coolers, seat cushins, camp chairs, etc. ALOT of driver shirts for a price of $15 each/with print on front & back-nice shirts! GAS around the Tri-Cities area is anywhere from$2.59-$2.79 a GAL.

The free parking off of White Top Rd has plenty pf parking.  I've never had a problem getting a spot there.  It isn't that far of a walk to the track maybe 3/4 of a mile BUT it is STEEP coming back to your vehicle.  We have affectionately dubbed it "the hill from h*ll"  When you top the hill you are looking across the top of Waltrip Grandstands at the Wallace Tower.  That is where I park and walk from and it isn't too bad especially if you pace yourself.  Getting out on Sunday can be a bit of a wait but it isn't bad, just don't get in a big hurry.

If you are coming up from South Carolina or out of the Asheville, NC area, fill up in South Carolina or cross into Tennessee before filling up again.  The I-26 corridor through NC is averaging about 2.80 a gallon for gas and 2.90 on dieselShocked

We always park along the tennesse ernie ford parkway; no fines or tickets. we park in front of the church. Get there by 6:30. They serve breakfast at 7 for a nominal donation. Good grub. then they have a shuttle that will drive you down old thomas bridge and drop you close to front entrance. You've got all morning to wander. After the race the 1 mile+ hike is a pain, mild uphill walk. As long as you're going west (for instance, toward pigeon forge where we also stay) takes less than an hour to get back on the freeway and usually just over 2 hours to get back to cabin. like i said, the hike after can be a pain; moving like cattle, but the benefit of parking further away is indeterminable because of the time you save.

Traffic will be bad in general.  If you kick back at somebody's campsite for a little while it will usually clear out and you won't have to get as frustrated as sitting in it going nowhere.

First time to Bristol, and I'll be coming out of the Nashville airport, staying in Greeneville.

1)How early should I leave Greeneville TN in order to beat traffic? It says it is 50miles from the track.

2)Also, how early do the souvenir stands open? In other words, how early is TOO early to show up on Sunday?

3)Any input on the best place to park? My seats are in the Pearson section. I don't mind walking a little ways if it gets me out of there sooner post-race. I have a 7hr drive (no traffic) and have to be at work the following morning at 0730 Cry

4)Anything to see in Greeneville on Saturday while I'm there?

5)Any pointers for a new-to-Bristol race couple? I wont be drinking due to the drive after and the work the following day...but I wouldn't mind hanging out a bit pre-race and maybe post-nationwide race.

Thanks in advance,
Shawn

Now it's 2.57 at the exit and 2.55 away from the exit. If you are coming from Nashville (I-40 West) there is one station off the Lenoir City exit and it's 2.57.

Some people don't think 2 or 3 cents a gallon is a lot, but when your motorhome has a 75 gallon tank (and gas milage that makes Al Gore's mistress screamShocked), that adds up in a hurry!

Obvious newbie to the board with this being my first post. It has been long overdue but planning to make our first trek to Bristol next week. I'm sure I'm going to have a lot of questions the regulars on this board can answer but my first concern is coolers. Like Bristol, Texas has a similar 14-inch rule when it comes to coolers but we have had no problems taking a larger, softsided rolling cooler to the track. It fits fine under the seats. Just wanted to get everyone's thoughts on if bringing a little larger cooler than 14 inches to the track will be okay.
