Went to the street event last night and was impressed. All of the staff I ran into was very friendly and helpful. For the amount of cars they really kept things moving.

As for the track, It was warm enough all day long for the first round of cars to have pretty good bite. My car stuck the whole length and ran 10.5@140MPH no problem.

Once the sun dropped the temps dropped fast. That coupled with many oil downs made the track slick. By the time I had a second run I skated the entire length of the track. But with the very cold temp and oil downs I wasn't surprised nor do I blame the track. It was just too cold and I am sure most cars there had antifreeze in their coolant system (I only ran water) and I am sure some of that was on the track. A trans broke in a DSM which laid fluid down the entire track in that lane, and many others.

Over all I would give the whole event an A+. And if it was warmer out I think the track would have stayed a little longer, but with the temps no track would have been sticky.

thanks!

I am gonna have to disagree with you on this one.  I made my first pass around 6 and the track was already an ice rink.  The temps were still in the low 60's which is plenty warm enough for the track to be working.  I have been at Mooresville and Shadyside when the temps were in the low 50's and the track will still hooking.

Also around 8:45 people starting doing donuts, burnouts, and making full passes in the pit area.  I guess the 10 security guards at the head of staging were too busy making sure nobody pulled their car up before they were supposed to. The idiots flying through the pits could have easily hit someone driving back to park.  Instead at 9:15 when a couple of us were waiting for a friend to finish changing his tires, a couple security guards came by and told us we needed to hurry up and leave.  Where were they when people were doing donuts?

I have been a strong supporter of Zmax since they opened, telling people to give them a chance.  After last night I can't support them anymore.  Track prep was horrible.  Rosin was left just laying on the starting line instead of being VHTed and dragged.  The security guards need to be on scooters driving around, not at the head of staging where they aren't needed.

I'll be making the drive to Rockingham if I want to race 1/4mi from now on.

I must say that I did have fun even though I think I could have launched better in wet grass. My first pass was terrible. Even while feathering the throttle, I still could not get enough traction. Up until almost a third of the way down the track, the tires were just spinning. The fact that I ran right after a dirt track car at the STREET CAR challenge (the yellow taxi) and all the crew did was swipe at the dirt that fell off the car with a wet mop and then wave a leaf blower at it didn't help on top of cool track temp. My second pass was a little better but I couldn't get past 3/4 throttle until 3rd gear w/o wheelspin, so in both cases it made for sorry times and speed. I will be coming back, but if after next time nothing has changed, then i'm sure I can find another track to spend $20 at.

I'd give Tuesday's street event a B-.  True, there's room for improvement as noted in earlier posts, however overall I saw a better organized,  more prepped (at least before the oil  downs) and well managed event than prior street car meets.   My Corvette only ran low 12's at 125 on MT Street Radial II's (I experienced my usual wheelspin in first), but I may not have had the power to experience the lack of traction noted by others.  But then, state inspected and licensed 'street cars' that run in the 10's and 11's are in the minority at such an event (although I grant - they are exceptional cars that deserve a good track).   Judging by my and my competitors 60' times, hook for many of us was ok given the cool track.    With the exception of the security guards, the Zmax personnel were meeting or exceeding expectations.   And I had a good time...the cars/drivers were great.   Even the coffee was hot.   Let's see how spring 2010 goes.

I had a great time.  I agree with Import Power that the track was great early on and degraded as the temps fell (Not really something the track can control)
I also agree that something should be done about the fools playing around in the "black lake area" of the pro pits (I'm sure it would have been the same on the Sportsman side with all of the space over there too.   Donuts, launches, drag races.  Some people just don't know what to do with the freedoms that are given to them.  I was genuinely concerned for peoples safety with the way some of the folks were acting out there.
