NASHVILLE, Tenn. – To celebrate 101 years of racing at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds, Music
City Motorplex will host the 8th Annual 600 Racing Bandolero and Young Lions Nationals Aug. 21.
The event features three division of 600 Racing Bandoleros, a tube-framed spec race car with
sleek fiberglass bodies and 570cc Briggs & Stratton engines, and competitors ages 12- 16 in Legends Cars,
a 5/8-scale full bodied fiberglass replica of the 1930s and 1940s NASCAR modifieds. It is expected to
draw the top Bandolero drivers from across the country to compete on the quarter-mile oval inside the .586-
mile track.

Last year’s event took place at Sunny South Raceway in Mobile, Ala, and attracted 67 cars from
all across the United States. With Nashville’s central location, this year’s event is expected to attract even
more cars. The event traditionally takes place in June, but due to the growing popularity of summer racing
programs, the date has been moved to August.

“We are hoping for 101 cars, at the very least, to celebrate this amazing milestone in Tennessee
racing history,” said Darrel Krentz, executive director of INEX, the International sanctioning body for
Legends, Bandoleros and Thunder Roadsters. “Music City Motorplex has such a storied history, and
Nashville is a wonderful destination city for our racers. There is a lot of fun things for the family to do in
Nashville, race track, and the on-track action promises to extremely exciting. It is the perfect back-toschool
vacation for our Bandolero and Young Lions families.”

The event will feature the three divisions of Bandoleros – the Bandits division for drivers 8-12; the
Young Guns divisions for 12-16-year-olds and the Outlaws for drivers 16 and over. The Young Lions are a
special class inside the Legends Semi-Pro divisions to reward the younger drivers.

Veteran promoter Joe Mattioli leased Music City Motorplex, formerly Nashville Speedway USA,
two years ago. He changed the name, and with the help of Jack Deery, track general manager, implemented
a Legends Car program in 2004. In 2005, the program will expand to include Bandoleros. The 600 Racing
Series cars will be a large part of the track’s new Sunday race program, Family Fun Day. The new Sunday
program begins April 3.

“We are so excited to be hosting the Bandolero and Young Lions Nationals,” Deery said. “The
Bandoleros are the key to the development of these young drivers-the stars of tomorrow. What better way
to introduce the Music City Motorplex Bandolero program to the Bandolero drivers from across country
than to invite them all here for the Bandolero Nationals.”
